Lake Orion players and coaches pose with their MHSAA regional championship trophy on Thursday.

Division 1 No. 2-ranked Lake Orion swept to a 3-0 win over No. 9-ranked Rochester Hills Stoney Creek in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Region 2 volleyball final at Lake Orion on Thursday, Nov. 8.

Lake Orion won 25-18, 25-16, and 31-29 to earn its first regional title since 2011.

Wren Macaulay led the Dragons with 26 assists and two aces. Miss Volleyball finalist Paige Briggs finished with 15 kills.

“Really, all year long, as good as we’ve played and as good as our record is, we haven’t put together multiple high-level sets in a row,” Lake Orion

head coach Tony Scavarda told reporters.

“We always seem to roller coaster a little bit and squeak out wins when we shouldn’t be needing to do it. I really liked how in those first two sets we were able to keep it rolling. The third set was a tough one, they never gave up, they kept grinding and they found a way. I’m really proud of them for that third set, they could have very easily wilted and tried to get it done in the fourth, but they didn’t do that.”

Lake Orion advances to face unranked Flushing in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Fenton.
